Independent Java & .NET Architect

Java systems that don't wake you up at 3 AM.

I help engineering teams build reliable backend systems, review critical architectures, and solve the hard problems nobody else wants to touch — before they become incidents.

I also help non-technical founders and business owners turn a real business need into a complete, production-ready stack — Kubernetes, Java or .NET applications, CI/CD, and everything in between — efficiently and reliably, from day one.

Javaccino is the consulting brand founded by Romain Manni-Bucau — an independent architect working with teams across France, the US, the UK, and Switzerland.

When you need more than a developer

Most consultants can write code. Few have spent 15+ years inside the Apache Software Foundation, contributed to Maven and TomEE, built Kubernetes operators, and authored a book on Java performance.

Even fewer can walk into a Java shop in the morning, review a C# codebase in the afternoon, and build an entire production stack from scratch the next week.

That breadth is what makes the difference when the stakes are high.

Background

From engineering to architecture — and back.

Graduated from Polytech'Tours engineering school in 2010. Spent over a decade building distributed systems across multiple stacks, contributing to the Java ecosystem at the Apache Software Foundation, and architecting production platforms for companies in France, the US, the UK, and Switzerland.

In 2024 I expanded into C# and .NET architecture alongside my Java work, bringing a cross-platform perspective that most specialists can't offer. Javaccino was founded to formalize this independent consulting practice.

I've spoken at ApacheCon, DevoxxFR, JBCNConf, and Java user groups — and published Java EE 8 High Performance with Packt.

What I do

Four ways I help engineering teams.

Architecture

Architecture Reviews

Before investing months into a project, get an experienced second opinion on scalability, deployment, resilience, observability and technical debt.

You receive actionable recommendations — not a 70-page report.

Development

Java, .NET & AI

Building and improving production software with Java 21+, Spring Boot, Jakarta EE, .NET, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes and Docker. Designing AI-aware systems, LLM integrations, and MCP-based agent architectures.

Greenfield or existing platform — always built for maintainability.

Code Review

Code Reviews & Audits

A code review should do more than check formatting. I look at maintainability, performance, correctness, architecture consistency and production risk.

The goal isn't to criticize — it's to help teams move faster with confidence.

Advisory

Technical Advisor

Need someone experienced, but not full-time? I validate technical choices, review pull requests, mentor developers and prepare difficult releases.

Senior guidance without the cost of a full-time architect.

From Scratch

Full Stack, Start to Finish

Have a business need but no technical team yet? I design and build the entire stack — Kubernetes cluster, Java or .NET applications, databases, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring — so you get a real, production-ready solution, not a prototype.

Ideal for non-technical founders who need a reliable system built right the first time.

Open Source

Building in the open, for over a decade.

Open source has always been part of my work. I contribute because building software in public forces high engineering standards — and this experience directly benefits my consulting work through better architecture decisions, cleaner APIs and long-term maintainability.

  1. Apache

Apache Software Foundation member for 15+ years. Committer on TomEE, Apache Maven, and several other projects — contributing build tooling, plugin development and core Java ecosystem libraries.

  2. TomEE

Working on the Jakarta EE application server used in production by enterprise Java teams worldwide.

  3. Bundlebee

Lightweight Kubernetes deployment tooling, born from real operational pain on real clusters.

  4. Yupiik Fusion

IoC container, JSON-RPC framework, and component-model work exploring what modern Java runtimes can look like.

  5. OrangeLogic

Kubernetes-native distributed test suite executor designed for highly parallel test execution across clusters, and a production-grade datalake built on Apache Iceberg from scratch — both solving real scalability constraints.

  6. Yupiik

An open-source product line spanning backend frameworks, batch processing, Kubernetes tooling, and an MCP server framework for LLM-agent integration.

  7. CI/CD

Deep expertise in continuous integration and delivery pipelines — Maven plugin development, GitHub Actions automation, and infrastructure-as-code practices that keep delivery fast and reliable.

One conversation can save months of wrong direction.

Whether you need an architecture review, a performance audit, someone to lead your most difficult technical project, or a complete stack built from scratch — let's talk.
